Murphy's Pedigree
My friend, the late Carolyn Richards, was trying to find a home for a four-month old pet puppy out of her stud dog Rip. She asked me if I was interested. I had moved to Michigan for work and wasn’t sure a puppy would fit in. When I was home for the weekend, she brought him over for a visit. I told her that I had to think about it. My heart knew right away that I wanted Murphy; I simply had to find the courage to give up some of my independence (and half of my bed). The following weekend, he came home with me, and I have never regretted it.
When Murphy was about a year old, Carolyn suggested we try to show him. His second weekend in the ring, he won a three-point major and had all of his minor points in less than two months. He was shown one more weekend and got a 5 point major to finish in June 2003. Later that year, Carolyn suggested that Murphy should be shown as a Special for a few shows. She recommended Rick Zahorchak, professional handler, from the Pittsburgh area. Rick showed Murphy at the Christmas shows in Cleveland. He won Best Of Opposite one of the days over several established specials. At the beginning of 2004, Murphy was shown at the Rubber City shows in Tallmadge, Ohio and won Best of Breed all three days, starting of the year in a very good way. Murphy continued winning and finished 2004 ranked #16 in breed points.
Murphy has been shown on a very limited basis since that year. He has gone to the National Specialty in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He has made at least the first cut each year. In 2006, he made it to the last group before the awards were handed out. He became eligible for the Veteran’s class two days after the 2007 National. Rick showed him at the 4-day specialty in Greenfield, IN in November 2007. Murphy showed beautifully and won Best of Opposite Sex from the Veteran’s class on two of the four days, beating ranked Specials on both occasions. He is the ultimate show dog and truly enjoys it. Not a bad career for that four-month old "pet" who stole my heart.
Murphy is a wonderful house dog and a great ambassador for Great Danes. His gentle temperament is refreshing. He loves everyone…dogs, puppies, cats, children. He is a true gentleman. We are anxiously awaiting for little champions out of Murphy.
Murphy won BOB and his litter sister "Gretta", CH Brislyn's No Regrets Jasmine, was Winner's Bitch
Murphy won Best of Breed at the Richland County Kennel Club show in July 2004.
